Times Were Different

I never really thought about the fact that I was a first-generation student because times were different. In the old days, a lot of people, including my parents, were successful without it. I am a Baby Boomer, so I was motivated to get the degree because the only way to get past the glass ceiling in my career was with a degree. The best thing was getting the diploma; it was more about making it past the finish line then being the fastest runner. My husband gave me moral support and encouragement. I did not receive financial support and worked my way through.

I would advise my college self to always have faith in my abilities and focus on the next opportunity for success when experiencing a setback.
