Why I Chose to Attend College

I chose to attend college because the importance of education was always present in my life. Both of my parents are immigrants and I am the first generation American child in my family. I grew up watching my parents work hard and sacrifice so that their children could have a better life — and part of that better life was a college education. They instilled in me and my siblings that a college education would enable me to continue to be a productive member of society.

As a first-generation American, I had to navigate the college application process on my own. My parents did not have the knowledge to assist me in completing my college applications or guiding me in how to make it “better.” As such, I did the best I could and sought assistance from my High School counselor and others along the way. Through my hard work and dedication, I was accepted into UCLA and obtained my bachelors in political science and international relations. My desire to succeed lead me to law school. I was awarded a full scholarship to Loyola Law School and I am now a practicing attorney that specializes in immigration law.

All of this was possible because I had the desire to attend college.  Everyone’s path is different and the important thing is to follow your dreams and ask for help and guidance throughout your journey.
